OUMIER WASP NANO REVIEW

FIRST IMPRESSION OUT OF THE BOX:

Man, is this thing tiny. They should have named it the Gnat instead of the Wasp. This may be one of the smallest atomizers I’ve ever seen. Comes in a two-tiered box. The atomizer is on the top tier and the spares with the rest of the goodies are on the bottom tier. Looks like they only give you two spare o’rings. Have o’rings gotten really expensive lately? Whatever, let’s throw a coil in here, wick this thing up and see how it vapes.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX:

  • 1pc Wasp Nano RDA
  • 1pc Spare kit
  • 1pc Organic Cotton
  • Squonking pin

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

The Wasp Nano by Oumier comes with a combination drip tip/barrel/top cap. Normally, I would have preferred separate pieces but because of the diminutive size of this atomizer, I totally understand why they combined all three into one piece. The combination top part of the atomizer is made of all Ultem. I do like the look but I know some people are not crazy about the yellowish tint that Ultem has. I’ve heard it referred to as a derogatory bodily fluid color. It doesn’t bother me and I actually think it looks good on some mods. All that being said, the cap does work fine and it is very serviceable. I do find that my mouth is a little too close to the coils when I vape it this way so I have found a very tiny drip tip that acts like an extender for me when I’m using this atomizer. I have been running it this way for quite some time and so far, it has worked really well for me.

While I do like the top cap and it is quite comfortable while vaping, I am a little disappointed that there is only one. I know Ultem is supposed to be pretty durable but let’s face it, this thing is basically some type of plastic. It is eventually going to wear down, weather, or basically just wear out. I would have rather have seen some type of metal piece on the interior or at the very least, a spare. There are two air holes that coincide with air holes on the blocks of the deck when you line everything up. They are oval in shape and this atomizer does have adjustable airflow. The airflow on the Wasp Nano is very smooth and it does give you a pretty good range.

The base of the Wasp Nano has two rings going around the circumference of it. They do a nice job of keeping the top cap in place. On the bottom of the base, there is some Wasp Nano branding. There is also a negative post screw that can be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver. The 510 pin has an insulator ring around it and it is removable with a flat head screwdriver. The pin is gold plated and it does protrude from the o’ring insulator. The threading around the 510 pin is smooth and well done. So far, this atomizer has sat flush on every mod I have used it on.

THE DECK:

The deck on the Nano has two huge blocks. In the corner of each block, there is a flat head deck screw that coincides with the post hole on each one. The post holes themselves are not really huge but you will be able to get flat wire builds in there. The two post holes each have the sides of them open. So, as long as your coil is the right length and has the correct number of wraps, you should not have any problem sliding your coil into the post holes through the sides.

The blocks are kind of squared off at the ends but the long side of them has a curve that corresponds with the circular shape of the deck. The blocks are rather large but they do have an air flow cut out that goes through both blocks. Both blocks kind of form a channel where you place your coil. The air holes go through the blocks and come out in the middle of the channel. The channel itself definitely limits the width of the coil that you can use on the Nano. Because of the length between the two terminals, it also limits the amount of wraps that you can use. As I said earlier, most of the times, I do have to add a wrap or two to my coil in order to get it to fit properly. It’s a solidly constructed deck but at the same time, it is not a very roomy deck. You don’t have a lot of wiggle room as far as coil placement goes. I do love this deck and I like the enclosed feeling that it gives off. I’m sure this type of design definitely contributes to the fantastic flavor on the Wasp Nano.

BUILDING AND WICKING:

This is a single coil deck and the Nano deck does take rather long coils. What I mean by long coils is on most of my pre-made coils that I buy, I normally have to add a wrap or two in order to get it to fit in the Wasp Nano. The post holes on the terminals are rather far apart. In fact, you could actually say that they are opposite each other on the circle part of the atomizer.

The deck does definitely constrain you when it comes to the type of build you can use. You definitely need to use a coil with more wraps than you normally would and you are also constrained by the channel. The deck channel goes as far as the width of your coil goes. The biggest coil you can fit in there is probably 3 mm. Building is pretty easy because you can slide your leads in through the open ends of the post holes. Once you secure your leads, there is a little wiggle room to adjust your coil but not much. I place my coil so it sits slightly above the interior air slots.

Wicking is actually pretty straightforward on this deck and very easy. Simply slide your cotton through the coil. I like to cut mine right around second o’ring when I measure it up against the base. I cut my cotton straight and I simply tuck it in on the sides.

The Wasp Nano does come with a squonk pin and I have to say that this little guy definitely excels as a squonker. It has a deep enough juice well for squonking and you really don’t have to worry about the juice dispersing evenly because the surface of the bottom of the deck is basically flat and wide open. There are really no other sides to this deck. It’s all one big deck with one nicely sized coil in the middle. I have used it on a squonker for quite some time now and it is definitely one of the better squonk atomizers on the market today. You can over squonk but it does take a lot of juice to do that. Oumier could have made this over squonk proof if they would have drilled out the air holes on the block on a downward slant. They definitely had enough room to pull that off. Oh well, maybe on the Wasp Nano II.

HOW DOES IT VAPE?

The Wasp Nano by Oumier does give you one fantastic vape especially when you consider that it’s a single coil atomizer. The vape is very flavorful and dense. I think that is due to the coils being so close to your mouth. I love to use this atomizer as my convention atomizer. Whenever I go to a vape convention, I hate using the plastic drip tips that they provide so I wind up bringing my own RDA. This is the perfect size for that type of situation because it only takes about 6 to 8 drops to fully saturate your cotton on this RDA. After that, you get about five or six pulls before you have to re-drip again. Just absolutely perfect for tasting juices and taking to a convention.

The flavor on the Wasp Nano is really on point as well. I like the smooth adjustable airflow and I like the clouds that it produces. While this is a single coil RDA, it is no tootle puffer. This thing can chuck clouds with some of the best of them. In fact, while I was walking around the vaping convention with this RDA, people would look at the size of it and then see the cloud that I would blow and say, ‘hey man, what are you vaping on?’. When they found out that it was actually a single coil RDA, most of the people were shocked. It has really good cloud production for an atomizer of its size.

I have always been a big fan of single coil atomizers. I just tend to love all of my one lungers. The reason I like them so much is because you get great flavor and, most of the times, great clouds while using a little more than half the power you normally would on the same coil as a dual build setup. I think it’s great because when you slap an atomizer like this on a dual 18650 mod, you get battery life for days. Just as an example when I used this atomizer at the show in Miami, I was running it at around 38 watts in power mode. I had it on top of my Minikin V2 and I was basically able to get through the whole show every day with one set of batteries. The show opened at 10 am and closed at 7 pm. In fact, only one time during the day did I actually have to swap out the batteries and it was on my way out of the convention center.

WHAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT BETTER:

  • More deck space
  • Larger post holes
  • Allen head grub screws
  • A second top cap
  • More spare o’rings
  • Make the drip tip part of the top cap a tad longer or better yet provide a removable extension piece
  • Air holes drilled on a downward slant

CONCLUSION:

If you are into single coil atomizer, then you definitely want to give the Wasp Nano a serious look. If you are a flavor chaser, you want to take a look at this atomizer as well. If you go to a lot of vape conventions and you don’t like using the provided drip tips like me, then this is the atomizer for you. It has some great build quality to it and the flavor is definitely on point. While this is a flavor first atomizer, the clouds on it or more than respectable as well. People will definitely be shocked when they see the cloud production on the Oumier Wasp Nano. This is also a great atomizer for people who DIY and like to taste some of their juices that they make in small batches. It only takes about 6 to 8 drops to fully saturate the cotton and you will get a good 5 or 6 pulls before you go dry.

I have a lot of atomizers to choose from in my daily rotation and the Wasp Nano has so far stood the test of time. I have been keeping it in my rotation for quite some time now because I have yet to find a single coil atomizer that beats it in flavor or cloud production. Once that happens, I will rotate it out and report back but for now, it’s the King of the Hill in that subcategory. If you meet the criteria that I noted above, you should definitely give the Wasp Nano a legitimate shot at your vaping dollars. It’s DeucesJack approved for the flavor chaser in you.
